Waylon nominated for a Gouden Notekraker!

The ‘Gouden Notekraker’ (‘Golden Nutcracker’) is a very prestigious award for actors and musicians for their outstanding achievements in the past year. NORMA and Sena, both organizations that distribute performance rights monies to actors and musicians respectively, grant these yearly awards. Last year actress Anna Drijver and jazz musician Eric Vloeimans were awarded a ‘Gouden Notekraker’. Now the nominees for 2012 have been announced. On the music side they are internationally renowned pop singer Caro Emerald, soulful Dutch language singer Glennis Grace and our own rock & soul sensation Waylon. According to the NORMA and Sena “Waylon excels with his vocal intensity and fantastic performances. Besides, he writes most of his own songs and although his influences shine through, authenticity and credibility are words that best describe his music.” We couldn’t have said it better! The winners of the ‘Gouden Notekrakers’ will be announced on Monday August 27th in the Paradiso in Amsterdam.

Waylon wins 3FM Best Singer Award!

‘I really hadn’t expected this, I swear’, a flabbergasted Waylon uttered, right after winning the most prestigious 3FM Best Male Vocalist Award. He was completely overwhelmed, not in the least because he was up against very stiff competition: Waylon edged out superstars Guus Meeuwis, Tim Knol, Marco Borsato and Alain Clark. No wonder he was bowled over completely when the crowd in the Gashouder in Amsterdam erupted in cheers and applause when Waylon’s victory was announced. After he regained his composure, Waylon thanked his vocal coaches. A very sympathetic gesture, as these unsung heroes who keep de star’s vocal chords in tip top shape seldom get their moment in the spotlights. And of course Waylon expressed his gratitude to his fans and all the listeners to 3FM who voted for him. The 3FM Awards are truly the people’s choice and thus the best measure of appreciation an artist can wish for. One thing for sure: at this very moment Waylon is the happiest man in the world!

Waylon does Concert at SEA!

Waylon will perform at the Concert at SEA 2012. This two day popfestival in Brouwersdam, Zeeland will take place on Friday June 29th and Saturday the 30th. The Concert at SEA is organized bij Dutch rockband Bløf, and of course they will perform both days;…on Friday they’ll play cover songs, and the next day they’ll do a set of their own songs. On the Friday they’ll be joined by Acda en de Munnik, VanValzen and Golden Earring, and the next day by Ilse DeLange, De Dijk, The Baseballs, Go Back To The Zoo and… Waylon! On the morning of Friday the 10^th of February, Waylon did something nobody’s ever done before: When he visited the ‘Evers Staat Op show at Radio 538, he performed Lose It, playing guitar, keyboards, bass and drums and providing his own two-part back-up vocals all by himself. “I’m exhausted!” Waylon exclaimed after the performance of his new single. “I don’t know what happened, it was some sort of out-of-body experience!” It was a truly something unbelievably incredible as well as incredibly unbelievable. Waylon releases new single!

Last Friday, January 27^th, Waylon released his brand-new single ‘Lose It’. This great track from Waylon’s album ‘After All’ is a soulful song about all those confusing feelings you experience when you fall in love.

“That girl from ‘The Escapist? That turned into love”, explains Waylon. “And when you fall in love, you get the feeling that you can go crazy, that you can ‘lose it’, as well. On the one hand you get that desperation and beating yourself up over everything, on the other hand you get that great feeling that you’re alive, that everything is exciting!”

Waylon knocks back an Amstel beer

It is already all over TV: the new Amstel beer commercial featuring Waylon. In this 56 second video singer Thomas Acda really needs to go to the bathroom after a show at a city square somewhere. Because all the toilets are taken, he rings the door bell at some unsuspecting music fan’s house. Before long, Thomas and his friends Paul de Munnik, Waylon, Trijntje Oosterhuis, the 3J’s, Di-Rect and Xander de Buisonjé are partying away, drinking beer and listening to Waylon’s hit ‘Wicked Way’. A voice-over says: ‘Do you want a unique Vrienden van Amstel LIVE! concert near your house? Check amstel.nl.’ A very good idea: do it! And who knows, pretty soon Waylon and his colleagues might be at your doorstep, ready to rock your neighborhood!

Waylon’s busy start of the year

Waylon is experiencing an incredibly busy start of the new year. Not only will he perform seven nights at ‘de Vrienden van Amstel LIVE!’ in a sold-out Ahoy, he’ll also continue his Lucky Night Tour. Waylon and his fabulous band will blow the roof off of Het Park in Hoorn on Friday 6 January, followed by Metropool in Hengelo the next day and Apollo in Emmen on Thursday 12 January. Don’t miss these shows, because due to many national and international obligations Waylon isn’t a lot on stage in Februari and March. But don’t panic there are still a few tickets left for the shows in Hoorn, Hengelo and Emmen, so check our Live page! Coming days a couple of new shows will be aded to the tour schedule. Waylon is also going to choose a new single as the follow-up to his hit ‘Lucky Night’, so he’ll let us know which song he picked in a couple of weeks.

Waylon’s Serious Request raises serious money

Whenever Waylon visits 3FM’s Serious Request, something spectacular happens. Two years ago he shaved his head for the charity, a couple of weeks ago he put his Harley Davidson up for auction. People certainly noticed: Waylon nearly crashed through the windows of ‘het Glazen Huis’ when he roared onto de Beestenmarkt in Leiden, he stayed the night joining the DJ’s in the glass house, and then the next day he drove his motorcycle onto the stage before delivering a particularly high-energy performance, dazzling the crowd. After which Waylon anxiously waited to see how much money auctioning the Harley would bring. Well, the auction was a great success: his fabulous ‘Fourty Eight’ city bike was sold for 10,300 Euro’s – an incredible amount that made Waylon very happy and simply stunned the people behind the Serious Request charity. And somewhere in Holland the new owner will soon be driving a brand new Harley Davidson, in the happy knowledge that he gave a fantastic amount of money to a very good cause!!!
